From Fabric Scraps to Beautiful Pin Cushions: The Journey of Our DIY Embroidery Kit
At The Textile Workshop, we believe that every piece of fabric has a story—and a second chance to become something beautiful. Our DIY Embroidery Pin Cushion Project is more than just a craft kit; it’s a journey of transformation, creativity, and community.
A Gift That Started It All
When Karen was 12 years old, she received a special Christmas gift from her mother and grandmother—Sew Simple - Embroidery Sample Book by Millicent Miall. That simple yet thoughtful present sparked her lifelong love of embroidery, inspiring her to explore the art of stitching. Now, through this project, she hopes to pass on that same joy and sense of discovery to others, just as her family did for her.
It All Starts with a Donation
Our kits begin their life as fabric donations from our wonderful community. From well-loved jeans and shirts to small scraps of vibrant textiles, these materials arrive at our workshop ready for a new purpose. Every donation plays a part in reducing waste and celebrating the beauty of upcycling.
Handcrafted with Care
Once the fabrics are selected, we cut and sew them into pin cushions, ensuring each one is unique. Karen, our lead embroidery artist, personally chooses the fabric and thread colours for each kit. No two kits are the same, making every project a one-of-a-kind experience.
A Personal Touch
To make your stitching journey even more special, Karen handwrites a note for every kit, pinning it onto the fabric. These notes offer encouragement, insight into the stitches applied, and helpful tips—just like having a mentor by your side.
